It has been nearly 3 months since I started my university journey at RMIT. RMIT courses taught me a lot of things related to my future job, especially Making Media. In the past, I dreamt of being a creative director, which seemed to be vague but now, I believe I can pursue my dream with the experience I gain through my learning and growing journey at RMIT.
Making Media is the course that I have a passion for the most. From its name, I can imagine Making Media will provide me with the skills that help me to make my idea come true in my own way. There are three assignments in the whole course, and each assignment needs a huge effort to complete in a good way. I have not had any experience with media before, so Making Media is a whole brand new experience for me but I have not felt boring when doing with software or sitting for a long time in front of the computer to design. With a laptop or PC, I have the key to open the wonderful world of creative content and outstanding photos, layouts, or audio.
The first challenge in Making Media is making a podcast. The audio is a useful tool to convey messages to the audience, so it is no doubt that we are taught to make audio first. From the very first day in the Making Media course, I found Thu and Anh, who also the newbies for software and creative works. We quickly got on well with one another and we created our team. Starting a new thing was never easy but we tried our best to support our teammates, show what we knew to others, comment to our friends and encourage them to improve, as well as learning together. Eventually, the result for the first assignment of our team makes us feel confident and energetic to contribute to the next assignments.
Our team members.
The next assignment is a magazine. This is an assignment that requires us to do all the work by ourselves, from taking photos and editing, writing articles, choosing layouts, arranging photos on each page. Luckily, I have taken up taking photos for several weeks, and we are instructed about the layouts of the images, it is an easier starting point for us.
We just needed two days to take photos but a long time to choose a proper layout for our magazine because we knew the layout would affect strongly on our magazine. There were be more controversy in our team about where to put the articles, how about the color balance of the photos, etc. but till the end, we had a magazine which could convey our message: POSITIVE and ENERGETIC.

The last assignment is an individual website, which is an online portfolio for me. I named it "Twilight"- the last moment of the day which we often regret and want to keep the day longer. On this website, I am free to share with everyone about my life, my thoughts, and also my feeling- it is similar to a diary to keep every single moment in my life. It is an invaluable treasure that records my learning and growing journey at RMIT.
Although the deadline at RMIT has always been challenging, it helps us to adapt easier to our future work. Our teacher- Ms. Linda Austin showed us that, nothing is easy as a piece of cake. If you want to gain success, you have to not only put a lot of effort but also be different from others. When studying this course, I learn not only from my teacher but also from my lovely teammates- it is the patience of Thu, the meticulousness of Anh. It also helps me to improve my weakness, especially teamwork skills, which I have not got a chance to practice when I was in high school.
One of my beloved teachers said: "University is the only place where you can try and fail several times but no worries to be fined". Making Media taught me that, the more I try, the better work and more experience I will gain. I believe that the skills that I was taught in Making Media: taking photos, recording, or even arranging layouts will help me to have a more aesthetic style as well as be more active to think creatively and try differently.
